Case study

Semi-automatic plasma feeder and buffer unit

Customer: Tehomet Baltic (part of Valmont Group)

Project Completion Date: August 1, 2024
Application: Semi-finished product buffer and feeder system for pipe welding workstation

We designed, installed, and commissioned a semi-automatic production line for a client, which follows the plasma robot and is intended for buffering and feeding pipes of various dimensions to the welding workstation. The goal of the production line is to increase the efficiency of the welding workstation and improve operator ergonomics by reducing the manual transport of pipes to the workstation.

This is already the second successful development project for the same client. Read more about the first project: Processing Line for Steel Lighting Poles.

Technical Specifications:

  • The production line can feed and receive pipes from the buffer with lengths ranging from 1500mm to 4500mm, and diameters between 80mm and 114mm.
  • The production line automatically feeds pipes from the buffer to the welding operator’s station and positions the pipe for welding – the operator manually performs the welding tasks.
  • The welded pipes are automatically collected into the output buffer system for further handling.
  • The buffers can hold up to 50 pipes of the largest dimensions, with a total mass of 2200kg.

Project Impact:

  • The production line is part of the overall automation of the client’s factory processes.
  • The new production line doubles the productivity of the plasma robot and the welding workstation.
  • The updated production process significantly reduces the strenuous movements of the welding operator and improves ergonomics.

Project Components:

  • Development of the production line concept, and mechanical systems design.
  • Design of the electrical and automation systems of the equipment.
  • Installation work for electrical and automation systems, design and manufacturing of electrical panels.
  • Subcontracting for steel structures: welding, painting, CNC turning and milling, sheet metal processing.
  • Assembly and construction of mechanical systems for the production line, on-site installation work.
  • PLC programming, equipment commissioning, testing, and adjustment (including integration with existing production lines).
  • CE certification.

All the solutions we create are primarily based on international mechanical engineering standards, which we adapt to meet the personal requirements of each customer! We also issue the CE marking to all the devices built and/or designed by us.
