Semi-automatic welding unit feed and buffer system
Project end date: August 1, 2024
Application: Buffer and feed system for semi-finished products made of pipes to the welding shop
We created, installed and launched a semi-automatic production line for the client as an extension of the plasma robot, which is designed to buffer and feed pipes of various sizes to the welding workplace. The production line aims to increase the efficiency of the welding workplace and improve operator ergonomics (by reducing manual transport of pipes to the workplace).
This is the second successful development project for the same client. Read more about the first project here: Steel lighting pole processing line
Technical specification
- The production line can feed and receive pipes with lengths of 1500mm – 4500mm, diameters ranging from 80mm – 114mm, from the buffer.
- The production line fully automatically feeds pipes from the buffer to the welding operator and positions the pipe for welding – the operator performs the welding work manually.
- Already welded pipes are collected fully automatically for further processing in the output buffer system.
- The buffers can accommodate 50 pipes of the largest dimensions with a total weight of 2200kg.
Project impact:
- The production line is one part of the automation of the entire production processes of the customer’s factory.
- The new production line will double the productivity of the plasma robot and welding workstation.
- The updated production process significantly reduces the burdensome movements of the welding operator and improves ergonomics.
Project components:
- Development of production line concept, design of mechanical systems.
- Design of the device’s electrical and automation systems.
- Installation work of electrical and automation systems, design and production of electrical panels.
- Steel structure outsourcing: welding, painting, CNC turning and milling work, sheet metal processing.
- Design and construction of production line mechanical systems, installation work on site.
- PLC programming, device startup, testing and configuration (incl. interfacing with existing production lines).
- CE certification.
